The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccines
The human papillomavirus or HPV is one of the most common types of sexually transmitted disease, causing more than 99% of the cases of cervical cancer and genital warts. In 2006, a vaccine known as Gardasil was licensed to protect against HPV. Gardasil is the first ever vaccine for infections and diseases associated with the HPV virus. A new vaccine against HPV, known as Cervarix has recently been approved in Australia.
